Safety Tips

Electric Power gives us light and warmth but without safety precautions it can also be dangerous. By following these simple precautions you can insure you and your family’s safety.

  • Replace or repair frayed or damaged cords on all electrical devices.
  • Avoid running extension cords across doorways or under carpet.
  • Never touch anything electrical when your hands are wet.
  • If something gets caught in a power line do not attempt to remove it yourself.  Contact your local power company.
  • Never prune trees near power lines.  Contact your local power company.
  • If outlets or light switches feel warm, shut off the circuit and have them checked by an electrician.
  • In homes with small children, electrical outlets should have safety plugs.
  • Don’t overload extension cords, surge protectors, or electrical outlets.
  • After a storm, report fallen power lines and stay clear until they have been repaired.
  • Do not use extension cords near swimming pool or ponds.
  • Do not use nails or staples to hold up light strings or electrical cords.
  • When using lights outside, always point the sockets down to avoid water collecting in them.
